  La Familia Son

La Familia Son plays contemporary Cuban Son ranging from traditional son to old school salsa to original music that incorporates jazz harmonies and “timba” funk.  The band features a dynamic rhythm section of Cuban tres guitar, bongo, congas, and piano.  The compositions center around the beautiful vocal harmonies  accented by trumpet in songs that reflect on everyday life, our community, and the world around us.  All the music is wonderfully danceable as well as a pleasure for listening.

La Familia Son has received an enthusiastic response from Bay Area audiences.  It plays regularly at La Estrellita in East Oakland, and at La Peña Cultural Center in Berkeley.  La Familia has also played at numerous festivals including the Dia de los Muertos Festival in Oakland’s Fruitvale district, Yerba Buena Gardens Festival, the Oakland Art & Soul Festival, the Chicano Groove Festival at the Mexican Heritage Plaza in San Jose , the City of Albany Music Festival, the Agricultural Roots and the Abrazos Festivals at the Oakland Museum, San Francisco Carnaval Festival, West Oakland’s Clean Air Festival , Berkeley’s Telegraph Ave. Street Fair and Earth Day, The Oakland Temescal Street Festival, Union City’s Summer Music Series, Women’s Institute for Leadership Development for Human Rights and many more.
